There are already junior high high school teams in Arkansas. If you are interested in starting a team, contact League Director, Kyla Templeton, email@example.com.
Individuals can compete in the Arkansas League, but what’s even more fun is having a team to train and race with. Whether you are a student or coach, the League wants to do everything we can to help you form a team at your local junior high or high school. If you’d like to see a team form at your school, please send us an e-mail so we can help you out. The league can help in many ways, including help:
- Athletes find coaches
- Coaches form teams
- Teams become recognized by their schools
- Teams find additional volunteers
Below is some detailed information about teams. We encourage all athletes to recruit some fellow students and have some fun trying out the Division II competition.
Types of Teams
There are two types of teams.
- School-Based Teams: Comprised of full-time students from the same high-school, public or private. School-based teams can be “official” or “unofficial”.
- Composite Teams: Comprised of full-time students from more than one high-school within the same district or other geographic proximity. Composite Team Limitations: Composite Teams are intended to be temporary solutions toward building school-based teams. Riders may only score for a composite team for a maximum of 2 years. In addition, if a composite team has 5 or more students from the same school, those students will be scored separately from the rest of the composite team unless a petition to do otherwise is approved.
Don’t have a team to race with? That’s ok! Students can compete as an independent racer in the League Series. While they will not be eligible for the Team Overall title, they are eligible for the Individual Race and Overall titles. Independent racers need not register a team, and should only register for the series, being sure to denote that they are racing as an “Independent” where appropriate on registration forms. All other rules apply.
All teams must register with the League. Doing so provides insurance coverage for all coaches and volunteers, as well as supporting League programs.
In order to register the team’s Team Director should contact the league director.
The price for registering a team varies depending on the division of the team and if the team has a licensed head coach. For 2015, all teams in the Arkansas League will be Division II Teams.
Division I Teams (≥ 12 riders):
With licensed Head Coach: $250
Without licensed Head Coach: $375
Division II Teams (< 12 riders):
With licensed Head Coach: $125
Without licensed Head Coach: $250
If you have questions about team registration, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
In 2016 all Arkansas teams will be Division II Teams. In 2017, if there are 6 or more teams with more than 12 riders, the Arkansas League may move to two divisions. Larger teams (12+) will then be designated Division I, with Division II being made up of smaller teams.
While Division I and Division II teams do race separately, they are treated equally by the League in all aspects. The separation is only intended to provide a fair race environment.
Teams are awarded points after every League race, which count toward the teams’ standings at that individual race and for the overall series. Both girls and boys points count toward that team’s overall score. However, teams need not have boys’ and girls’ points to score for a race. Due to the difference in team size between divisions, Division I teams and Division II teams are scored differently.
For Division I, the team’s score is highest score possible out of the following boy/girl combinations:
For Division II, the team’s score is the highest score possible out of the following boy/girl combinations:
