2017 Coaches Retreat

March 3-5, 2017 – Location: Lake Degray State Park.

Overview: The 2017 Coaches Retreat is an opportunity for existing NICA coaches to network, collaborate, and build their skills on the bike and as a coach.  Ben Tufford of Cognition Coaching will be facilitating on-the-bike skills sessions focused on building skills and teaching skills.  It is open only to coaches who have coached NICA Teams previously.

What’s Included? Registration is free this year.  Registration includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks Saturday and Sunday and lunch on Sunday.  It also includes all skills instruction and classroom instruction, and an opportunity to ride with great individuals who are all working with students. Bring your bike, helmet and riding gear.

2017 New Coach Training

April 8-9, 2017 – Location: Arvest Conference Center, Bentonville, AR 7271

April 22-23, 2017 – Location: Orbea Conference Room, Little Rock, AR

Cost:  No charge – the Arkansas League aims to make student mountain biking accessible to as many students as possible.  For 2017, there is no charge for coach training.

Overview: The Arkansas New Coach Training provides the opportunity to learn about the Arkansas League structure and processes, how to start a mountain bike team, how to work with their schools, issues related to liability, and the unique intricacies of working with high school and middle school cyclists. The primary goal for the New Coach Training is to teach and license adults as competent NICA coaches. The training is an ideal opportunity for coaches and team organizers to share thoughts and opinions; it is the perfect environment to get charged up for the coming season!  Day one is new coach and organizer training.  Day two is NICA on-the-bike skills training to meet the requirements for Level 2 Certification.  Additionally, sign-ups for AHA CPR demonstration will be available.

Specific Instructions: For more information on NICA coach licensing requirements, visit www.nationalmtb.org/coaches-license-program.  We suggest completing the NICA required concussion training and submitting your background check information as soon as possible www.nationalmtb.org/coaches- license-program.  Day 1 provides the instruction needed to help organize and start a team and be a Level 1 NICA coach.  Day 2 fulfills the skill requirements to be a Level 2 NICA Coach.

What’s Included? Registration includes lunch and snacks, all instruction, and an opportunity to meet and ride with great individuals who are all interested in working with students. Bring your bike, helmet and riding gear for Day 2. Copies of the NICA Coaches Manual and Teaching Mountain Bike Skills Manual will be on sale for $10 each.

CPR Certification for Bentonville Class:  Take online AHA certification course (Code 15-1401), print and bring your certificate of completion, and sign up to demonstrate your skills and you will be CPR Certified also by the end of the weekend! Coaches will be responsible for the fees from the American Heart Association for CPR certification.
