Most mountain bike teams start small and grow quickly; it’s a tremendous challenge but highly rewarding! The first step for many potential coaches and team organizers is attending our spring coaches ...
One of our student athletes, Zachary Couture, is in need of white blood cell donations in the HOUSTON TX area. Share with your family and friends!
A Note about Zachary from Jacob Smithpeters, his Haas Hall teammate: For those of you who don’t know, Zachary Couture was diagnosed with Very Severe Aplastic Anemia this last summer, and he’s been fighting for his life ever since. This has forced him to drop out of school. He can’t go anywhere, and any outside visitors are required to clean up and wear a mask to avoid giving Zach an infection. He’s constantly in and out of the hospital with extremely high fevers. This is almost a daily occurrence for Zach, which proves exhausting as he’s constantly driving back and forth for treatment and blood transfusions.
Zach is a very talented and self motivated guy. Before this occurred, he excelled in mountain biking and road biking, beating most kids his age and even most adults. He also competed in travel baseball as the pitcher and catcher, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Haas Hall Academy Bentonville and a job as a bike mechanic that he loved. For those of us constantly blessed to have Zach in our lives, we know he’s the most loving and caring guy out there. Zach would tirelessly work to help me with homework, studying, and long book reports exceeding well into the morning hours. He would also spend long hours bent over my bike trying to help me prepare for a long weekend of racing. This is not a paid position people. Zach’s attitude has remained positive throughout this whole experience. Every time I see him, there’s a smile on his face, and he continues to put up with me somehow. Our bike rides have turned into watching YouTube videos and movies in the comfort of his home, but with your help, he will be back out on the trails as quickly as he heals.
We are calling all people willing to donate white blood cells!
As most of you know we are in Houston at Texas Children’s Hospital while our son Zachary is being treated for Very Severe Aplastic Anemia and waiting for a bone marrow transplant. At this time he is in need of White Blood Cell donations. We are asking if you or anyone you know might be able to help support our son through a donation.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of production in his own white blood cells, he is unable to fight this bacteria infection. In order to compensate for this debilitating decline in production he requires donations daily from a healthy donor.
In order to be cleared as a donor for our son, please consider making an appointment for prescreening. This will require lab work and a physical, completed free of charge, at the MD Anderson Blood Bank.
Donors can call the MD Anderson Blood Bank for any questions regarding white blood cell donations at 713-792-7777. Please ensure that you notify them you are interested in donating white cells for Zachary Couture at Texas Children’s Hospital. At this time, the Houston MD Anderson Blood Bank is the only location that can accommodate the donation screening process as well as white blood cell donation.
This a three day commitment! Please see attached document for additional information on specifications per day.
Thank you to all for your consideration and lifesaving contribution!
